August 2026 Newsletter

Dear 2026 SSPC Member

The Trustees were very sorry to hear of the recent death of Diann Arnfield. Diann had been a member of the pool for many years and was very well known by many of the longer standing members and others within the local community. Diann was a regular swimmer at the pool and, along with her husband Barry, she had been a member of the pool's plant room team.

Diann was very interested in the history of Shere and had almost completed her work on a book about the history of Shere Swimming Pool. It is hoped that we will be able to complete and publish this book in her honour.

For those who would like to attend Diann's funeral it will take place on Thursday 6th August at 1.00pm at Albury Church.  Please wear colourful clothes  After the service attendees are invited to the Drummond Arms for refreshments where we can spend time sharing memories of Diann.

No flowers are requested, but instead if you would like to make a donation to Diann's favourite charity the link is below:

Thank you to everyone who supported the July events. The Coffee/Tea swim, as well as the Kid’s Inflatable Madness and the Toddler Splash were really well attended and great fun was had by all!

And now the summer holiday is finally here!

Let’s hope that August sends us more of the same weather we have enjoyed recently.

As we are now in the midst of the holidays, can we please remind all parents to be particularly vigilant in supervising their children in the swimming pool to avoid any accidents.

We fully appreciate that the kids just want to have fun, but innocent horseplay can sometimes have serious consequences. So please look out for each other. Particularly no head first entries, the pool is far too shallow for that! And no throwing of any objects, which can hit and injure others.

We would also like to draw your attention to the Emergency Action Plan - Summary - Shere Swimming Pool Club on our website, which gives great information on what to do in case of an emergency but also stipulates that every accident must be reported in the accident book located in the signing in room. This is an important requirement for the safe running of our pool, so please do not ignore it. MANY THANKS!

Additionally can we also please remind everyone to respect other members’ swim time, as well as cancelling any unwanted bookings as soon as possible.

MANY THANKS!

GARDENING CLUB

Philippa, our Gardening Club lead, wanted to send this message:

“Warmest thanks to everyone for their compliments and encouragement, and to the hidden helpers who have given the plants a drink on their way to and from the pool!”

Additionally, Philippa would love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved in looking after the plants in and around the pool compound.

Besides looking for someone who would like to take on the overseeing of the plants in the next season, she would also like to hear from anyone who is keen to do the occasional weeding, watering and keeping the boarders clear. We have a volunteer who is looking after our tubs, but an additional pair of hands to help and liaise with her would also be much appreciated.

If you are interested in any of the above, please contact Philippa on pippa.galloway@gmail.com

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
