General Information on duties & the Broom Cupboard

Firstly a massive THANK YOU for volunteering! It is very much appreciated and ensures we keep the wonderful facility, that is the Shere Pool, in tip-top condition.

Everything you will need is located in the Broom Cupboard, padlock No. 1896.

Please make sure you have signed in, even if you are not planning to swim.  The insurance requires us to have everyone signed in who enters the swimming pool compound.  Many thanks!

Please note that you can do your duty anytime that is most convenient to you, as long as the pool is open and there are no other restrictions on access, for example school swimming, so please check the availability page to make sure. Do combine your duty with a swim.

Following members request we have provided only environmentally friendly cleaning products this year.

Pool Compound Sweeping

Brooms, rakes, dustpans and brushes are all kept for your use in the Broom Cupboard. Additionally, we also have a sweeper, which is yellow and looks a bit like a lawnmower, to assist with the sweeping of the compound. Please make sure you empty it after each use. The leaves, pollen, acorns etc, can be left behind the pool compound, by the river.

Sweep all areas including the sign-in room and gate area, but not the toilets or changing cubicles. They will be done by other volunteers.

Plastic bags are supplied for placing rubbish in after sweeping. Please separate recyclable and non-recyclable rubbish.

Any problems just ask.

Cleaning Toilets, Wash Basins and Toilet Floors & Checking Toilet Paper Supply and Handwash

Cleaning products to clean the toilets and wash basins are kept in the Broom Cupboard, along with toilet rolls, brooms and a mop.

The floors should be mopped with a mixture of floor cleaner and water.

Please check that there are enough toilet rolls in each toilet as well as hand wash.  Spare rolls should be put on the mental holder provided, but not on the toilet cistern where they get damp.

Refill for the handwash is found in the broom cupboard along with the key (hanging up with a beachball keyring) to open the dispensers.

Please refill the bathroom cleaner and toilet cleaner bottles from the large refill canisters whenever needed.

Any problems just ask.

Cleaning Changing Cubicles

Please take all the mats out of the cubicles first and place them near the tap by the shower. Then use a broom to get rid of any loose dirt on the cubicle floors and finish off by mopping the floors with a mixture of floor cleaner and water.

Now mop the mats separately with the same mixture and rinse them under the tap or use the hose provided in the broom cupboard. The hose is in a turquoise bucket on the shelf. Please make sure you put the hose back.

Place the mats onto the bench, leaning against the wall, so they can drip dry a little.

Any problems just ask.
